My first attempt at building a web site was in 1997 when I was president of our local writersâ association on Australiaâs Gold Coast. I created a site to keep members informed of upcoming meetings, workshops and local literary events. But it wasnât until 2002 that I really began to appreciate the potential of Internet marketing. In 2003 I built my first SBI content-based site and was soon approached by a colleague to "fix" two of his business sites. This threw me into the deep end with regard to product-based sites, especially writing copy about subjects where I had no expertise. I then created a florist web site, which was even more challenging because of the volume of graphics and complex pricing structure. Since then Iâve created a romantic gifts site and an aboriginal arts site, and in my "spare" time am working on a new site to advertise my web building services.

Internet marketing has become my new passion, sometimes to the point of information overload. I have over 200 books and courses on the subject (about half of which Iâve read) and I must have been on the mailing lists of every Internet marketing guru for the past two years (Iâve since cut down on my subscriptions). My clientsâ SBI sites have been steadily building traffic (even when they totally neglect them), and four client sites have ranked number one in Yahoo (and in the first two pages) for a number of different keywords. My first SBI site has been basically ignored since I started working on other peopleâs projects but it still chugs along with a steady stream of visitors each month.

Writing is probably my strongest skill, followed by HTML (which I love). I have a fairly strong background in marketing at this point, and continue to learn more very day. Iâm also learning a lot about graphics and am comfortable working in Adobe Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro. Iâve been forced to learn how to work around the SBI Site Builder program because until fairly recently it didnât allow me to upload HTML pages directly. As a consequence Iâve created my own hybrid system of uploading pages (donât ask!). I'm currently learning how to create online audio and video files, which is really exciting as it ties in with my film background and is a major new development in Internet marketing. I enjoy helping people discover their passion and create a web site around it. Most of my clients are already involved in an area they love but some are still deciding which of their interests would make a viable web site. I'm in the process of creating a private area on my new business site where clients can download many of the strategies we use to select ideas and build profitable web sites.
